Dados recentes afirmam que a doença de Parkinson afeta mais de 200 mil brasileiros. A doença de Parkinson tem início lento, mas vai aumentando gradativamente. De caráter degenerativo, afeta a ação dos neurônios e costuma provocar diversos distúrbios nervosos na terceira idade.

A fisioterapia tem o objetivo de minimizar os problemas motores, ajudando o paciente a manter a independência para realizar as atividades de vida diária e melhorando a sua qualidade de vida com o exercício.

A principal preocupação é com a rigidez devido a ter perda de amplitude de movimento e a locomoção devido à falta de equilíbrio. A fisioterapia tem programas de reabilitação e treinamentos para ajudar na capacidade física do paciente, no ganho de amplitude de movimento, equilíbrio, postura, autoestima, bem-estar, qualidade de vida.
